Regulators should be made of metal, most 1st stages are made of brass that has light chrome coating, and all 2nd stages are injection moulded plastic. its cheap both price and quality. Mares Abys MR22 Offered are all metal 1st and 2nd stageare far more likely to resist free flow due to thermal concerns and are far more resilient, lasting many more years and servicing cycles.
Another benefit to metal 2nd stages is they attract condensation, this can offer a moister breath, especialy usefull with super dry nitrox.
Mares MR22 use 1/2 inch diameter fittings for the primary 2nd stage hose, smaller size 3/8 inch used on most regulaters has negative effect of causing intermidiate pressure drop, wich makees regulater lose smoothness or sutter and dramatically increases breathing resistance, causing carbon dioxide buildup with the ensuing headaches or even blackout. the divers primary 1/2 inch port regulator should be donated to the stressed out diver to keep the air shairing process as comfortable and smooth as possible.
