Job Purpose
The Head of Maintenance is responsible for the strategic planning, execution, and continuous improvement of all maintenance activities related to Delta’s heavy equipment fleet. This role ensures maximum equipment availability, reliability, and cost-efficiency while maintaining strict compliance with safety, environmental, and client standards.
Key Responsibilities
1. Maintenance Strategy & Planning
• Develop and implement preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance programs.
• Establish maintenance schedules aligned with production targets and operational requirements.
• Monitor equipment performance and implement improvement plans to reduce downtime.
2. Fleet Management
• Oversee maintenance of all heavy equipment including excavators, ADTs, drill rigs, dozers, graders, and support equipment.
• Ensure optimal equipment availability and utilization across all project sites.
• Manage equipment life-cycle planning including overhaul and replacement strategies.
3. Workshop & Field Operations
• Supervise workshop and field maintenance teams.
• Ensure timely execution of breakdown repairs and scheduled maintenance.
• Maintain high standards of housekeeping, organization, and operational discipline in workshops.
4. Cost Control & Budgeting
• Prepare and manage maintenance budgets (OPEX & CAPEX).
• Monitor fuel consumption, spare parts usage, and maintenance costs per BCM and per machine.
• Implement cost control measures without compromising equipment reliability or safety.
5. Spare Parts & Inventory Management
• Ensure availability of critical spare parts and consumables.
• Optimize inventory levels and reduce downtime due to stock shortages.
• Coordinate with procurement for timely sourcing of parts and services.
6. Safety, Health & Environment (SHE)
• Ensure compliance with company HSE policies and client requirements (e. g. , Glencore standards).
• Promote a strong safety culture including Stop Work Authority.
• Ensure all maintenance activities are conducted safely with proper risk assessments and permits.
7. Team Leadership & Development
• Lead, train, and develop maintenance personnel (mechanics, electricians, supervisors).
• Conduct performance evaluations and identify training needs.
• Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
8. Reporting & Systems
• Implement and manage maintenance tracking systems
• Provide regular reports on equipment availability, downtime, and maintenance costs.
• Support tender submissions with technical inputs and fleet capability data.
9. Client & Stakeholder Coordination
• Interface with clients on maintenance performance and compliance.
• Ensure adherence to contractual requirements related to equipment performance and uptime.
Qualifications & Experience
• Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• French is mandaory.
• Minimum 8–12 years of experience in heavy equipment maintenance (mining environment preferred).
• Proven experience managing large fleets and maintenance teams.
• Strong knowledge of Caterpillar, Komatsu, Sandvik, or equivalent equipment.
• Experience working under mining contractors or OEM environments.
